What this formula does
At the standard dose of 2 capsules a day (151 mg = 40% RI):
- Magnesium contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system
- Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function
- Magnesium contributes to normal psychological function
- Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue
- Magnesium contributes to normal protein synthesis, to electrolyte balance and to normal energy-yielding metabolism
- Magnesium contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth
- Magnesium has a role in the process of cell division
Why this combination
The formula combines two forms of magnesium: bisglycinate (a chelate — magnesium bound to two glycine amino acids, well tolerated, not laxative) and citrate (magnesium bound to citric acid, good absorption, mildly laxative at higher doses). Bisglycinate provides the largest part (66.5 mg/cap), citrate an additional part (9 mg/cap). The added taurine is an amino acid that occurs naturally in muscle tissue; there are no EFSA-authorised health claims for taurine, so only a factual description is given.
⚠ Important — concentrated formula
Because there are no fillers, this formula is concentrated. Follow the dosage instructions carefully:
- Do not take on an empty stomach — this may cause stomach irritation
- No more than 1 capsule at a time — spread over the day when taking 2-3 caps
- With sufficient water
- Preferably in the evening (bisglycinate is more calming) or with a meal
Dosage
- Standard: 2 capsules a day (= 151 mg magnesium = 40% RI), spread out
- Low maintenance: 1 capsule a day (= 75.5 mg magnesium = 20% RI)
- If the need is higher: up to 3 capsules a day (= 226.5 mg = 60% RI) — close to the UL of 250 mg from supplements alone, only under supervision
- Or as advised by your health professional
Safety
- Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding without consultation
- With chronic kidney complaints: consult your doctor first
- When using medicines that influence mineral balance: consult if in doubt
- If stools become looser at higher doses: lower the dose or spread it out more over the day
- Do not exceed the recommended dose
Suitable for
Vegetarians and vegans. Gluten-free, GMO-free, hypoallergenic. Free from sugar, yeast, lactose, non-natural preservatives, synthetic colourings, fragrances and flavourings, and animal ingredients.
Storage
Packaged without plastic. Store dry and cool. Keep the packaging closed. Keep out of reach of children.
Vitarium therapeutic editorial
Magnesium Ultimate is set up as a two-form formula (bisglycinate + citrate) with taurine as a cofactor — broader coverage than a mono-citrate or mono-bisglycinate formula. In orthomolecular practice this formula suits above all those who take magnesium in the evening in a sleep-and-muscle context (for which bisglycinate is the favourable form) but who at the same time see the mildly laxative action of citrate as an additional advantage. If you want only one of the two forms — more cost-efficient or more goal-specific — we refer you to [Magnesium citrate](/products/magnesium-citraat) as the mono-citrate option. At higher doses (3 caps/day) you are close to the EFSA UL of 250 mg/day from supplements alone, and there the guidance of an orthomolecular therapist is appropriate.
This product is a food supplement. Do not exceed the recommended dose. A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important; a food supplement is not a substitute for these. Keep out of reach of young children. Consult an expert in case of pregnancy, lactation, medication use or illness.
