What chlorella is
Chlorella is a single-celled freshwater micro-alga, one of the oldest organisms on earth — around two billion years old. The name comes from the Greek "chloros" (green-yellow). Chlorella naturally contains a high proportion of protein, fibre, and the characteristic pigment chlorophyll, plus traces of vitamins and minerals whose exact amounts vary from batch to batch.
There are currently no EFSA-authorised health claims for chlorella in consumer supplements. The product page text is therefore strictly factual and biological.
Important safety information
- Naturally contains iodine — with a diagnosed thyroid condition (Hashimoto's, Graves', thyroid hormone medication): consult your doctor or endocrinologist first
- Take care when using anticoagulants (warfarin) — chlorella naturally contains vitamin K
- Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding without consulting your midwife or doctor
- With chronic liver or kidney problems: consult your doctor first
- Do not exceed the recommended dose
Dosage
- Standard: 6 to 10 tablets a day, divided over 1-2 doses
- With plenty of water
- Build up gradually (start with 3-4 tablets/day in week 1) — this prevents any discomfort from the high protein and fibre load
- Or as advised by your health professional

Vitarium therapeutic editorial
Chlorella is one of the oldest superfood supplements on the market and is used regularly in orthomolecular and functional-medicine practice within a detoxification and heavy-metals context. The evidence for specific areas of use (binding of heavy metals such as mercury and lead) is stronger in animal and in-vitro studies than in human clinical research; for general use as a "supergreen supplement" the claims are usually bigger than the evidence. What chlorella does factually deliver: a protein-rich, fibre-rich micro-algae source with chlorophyll, and at a sufficient daily dose a measurable short-term contribution to total protein intake. For anyone who wants to go deeper — especially within a detoxification context — guidance from an orthomolecular practitioner is more useful than experimenting on your own with high doses.
This product is a food supplement. Do not exceed the recommended dose. A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important; a food supplement is not a substitute for these. Keep out of reach of young children. Consult an expert in case of pregnancy, lactation, medication use or illness.
