Why calcium ascorbate (buffered)
Pure ascorbic acid is an acid (pH ~2). For anyone with a sensitive stomach, or who wants higher doses without stomach complaints, a buffered form such as calcium ascorbate or magnesium ascorbate is a more comfortable choice. Calcium ascorbate has the advantage that it supplies calcium at the same time — relevant for anyone who eats little dairy or lives plant-based.
Dosage
- Standard: ½ level teaspoon a day (~2.5 ml), with a meal
- Mix with water or another liquid
- With a full teaspoon (~5 ml) you go above the general advice of <1,000 mg vit C/day — short-term only or under supervision
- Or as advised by your health professional
Safety
- Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding without advice
- With hyperparathyroidism or another calcium metabolism disorder: do not start without consulting your doctor
- With kidney complaints or kidney stones: consult your doctor
- When using medicines that affect calcium balance (lithium, thyroid medication, some antibiotics): leave at least 2 hours between intakes
- Do not exceed the recommended daily dose without advice

Vitarium therapeutic editorial
Buffered vit C forms suit anyone who wants higher doses without stomach effects. The added calcium component (26% RI per serving) also makes this product an additional source of calcium at the standard dose — relevant for anyone limiting dairy or eating plant-based, but for anyone who already gets enough calcium from food a plain vit C or magnesium ascorbate form is a more logical choice. For anyone who wants more magnesium context within a buffered vit C: see [magnesium ascorbate powder](/products/vitamine-c-poeder-magnesiumascorbaat-copy-10800309).
This product is a food supplement. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important; a food supplement is not a substitute for these. Keep out of reach of young children. Consult an expert in case of pregnancy, lactation, medication use or illness.
