200 grams of pure L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in a fine powder — dissolves easily in water or fruit juice. Selected by Vitarium from the Natuurlijk.fit range.
What is in each serving
| Ingredient | Per ¼ teaspoon (~1.1 g) | %RI |
|---|---|---|
| Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) | 1,100 mg | 1,375% |
Single ingredient: L-ascorbic acid. A 200 g pack = roughly 180 doses at the ¼ teaspoon level.
What vitamin C does
- Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system
- Vitamin C contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress
- Vitamin C contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue
- Vitamin C contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system and to normal psychological function
- Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of blood vessels, bones, cartilage, skin, gums and teeth
- Vitamin C contributes to the regeneration of the reduced form of vitamin E
- Vitamin C increases iron absorption
With a daily additional intake of ≥200 mg vit C on top of the RI, the following claim applies as well: "Vitamin C contributes to the maintenance of the normal function of the immune system during and after intense physical exercise".
Dosage
- Standard: ¼ level teaspoon a day (= ~1.1 g = 1,100 mg vit C)
- Mix with 200 ml of water or fruit juice and drink
- 1,100 mg/day is higher than the general advice of <1,000 mg/day — for longer-term use you can halve it to 1/8 teaspoon (~550 mg) or dose under supervision
- Or as advised by your health professional
Please note — unbuffered, acidic
Pure ascorbic acid is an acid (pH ~2). For anyone with a sensitive stomach, or who wants to take vit C on an empty stomach, a buffered form (calcium ascorbate or magnesium ascorbate) may be more comfortable — these give the same vit C contribution but are gentler on the stomach. With this ascorbic acid powder: preferably take it during or after a meal.
Safety
- Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding without advice
- With kidney complaints or kidney stones: consult your doctor (high vit C doses can promote oxalate formation)
- Excessive use can make vit C act as a laxative
- Do not exceed the recommended daily dose without advice
Suitable for
Vegetarians and vegans. Gluten-free. Free from GMO and synthetic additives.
Storage
Store cool (but not in the fridge) and dry. Keep the packaging closed. Keep out of reach of children.
Vitarium therapeutic editorial
Pure ascorbic acid in powder form is the most cost-effective vit C supplement on the market — for anyone who wants high doses without paying per capsule. The downside is the sour taste and the risk of stomach complaints on an empty stomach; for standard daily maintenance (200-500 mg) the added value over a buffered form is limited. For anyone considering a short high-dose course of vit C — for example in a seasonal approach — this pack offers well over 6 months' supply. If you prefer buffered: see our [calcium ascorbate powder](/products/vitamine-c-poeder-calciumascorbaat-copy) or [magnesium ascorbate powder](/products/vitamine-c-poeder-magnesiumascorbaat-copy-10800309).
This product is a food supplement. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important; a food supplement is not a substitute for these. Keep out of reach of young children. Consult an expert in case of pregnancy, lactation, medication use or illness.
