What MSM is
MSM stands for methylsulfonylmethane — an organic sulfur compound made up of a methyl, a sulfonyl and a methane component. It occurs naturally in low concentrations in vegetables, fruit and grains, and is also found in cow's milk and seafood. Sulfur itself is an essential mineral that occurs in the body in, among other places, the amino acid cysteine, in glucosamine, and in a large number of proteins and cofactors.
For MSM itself there are no EFSA-authorised health claims for consumer supplements. The product page text is therefore strictly factual and biochemical.
Practical — about cofactors
Sulfur from MSM is used in the body for methylation and sulfation processes, among others. If you use higher MSM doses (3 g/day or more), watch that you take in enough B vitamins from food or a well-founded multivitamin — B6, B9 (folate) and B12 in particular are cofactors in these enzyme pathways.
Important safety information
- Take care if you use anticoagulants (warfarin, DOACs, aspirin at a lower dose): at high doses MSM can influence platelet function. Consult your doctor or pharmacist
- Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding without consulting your midwife or doctor
- If you have a known allergy to sulfur-containing compounds: do not use
- With chronic liver or kidney complaints: consult your doctor first
- Do not exceed the recommended dose
Dosage
- Standard: 1 to 2 capsules, 1 to 2 times a day — preferably with a meal
- With plenty of water
- At higher doses: keep enough B vitamins in the base (see above)
- Or as advised by your health professional

Vitarium therapeutic editorial
MSM is regularly used in orthomolecular and joint-focused practice as a sulfur building block, often combined with glucosamine, chondroitin or MSM-glucosamine formulas where the focus is on joints. If you want pure MSM without other constituents — for example in a detoxification or methylation context, or as a separate component alongside another supplement — a single-ingredient formula is the clearest choice. The doses used in research often lie between 1.5 and 6 g/day; on that scale this capsule offers an efficient form without fillers. If you want to dose high for longer than a few weeks: have it supervised, and stay alert to B-vitamin status.
This product is a food supplement. Do not exceed the recommended dose. A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important; a food supplement is not a substitute for them. Keep out of reach of young children. Consult an expert in case of pregnancy, lactation, medication use or illness.
