From tree to fine powder: what acacia fibre is, where it comes from and how you use it.
What is acacia fibre?
Acacia fibre — also known as acacia gum or gum arabic — is a water-soluble dietary fibre from the dried sap of the Acacia senegal (nowadays also called Senegalia senegal). The golden droplets of gum are harvested, dried and ground into a fine, light powder. OriginalFiber is 97% fibre — an exceptionally high fibre content, where many other fibre products stall at around 80%.
Why the name OriginalFiber?
The name is meant literally. Michael Eekhof was the first in the Netherlands to use acacia fibre — in his research with his own clients. The product that grew out of that was given the name OriginalFiber: the original acacia fibre, pure gum from the Acacia senegal — the same standardised raw material that has also been used in published research into acacia fibre. ‘Fiber’ stands for what it is all about: fibre, and as much of it as possible — with a 97% fibre content, OriginalFiber is virtually pure fibre. Everything that reached the market after that, came after that. Natuurlijk.fit makes OriginalFiber in house and has supplied healthcare professionals and practices directly since 2016.
No taste or smell
Acacia fibre is virtually tasteless and odourless and dissolves effortlessly in cold and hot drinks alike. That is why it fits into any routine: in your coffee, water, smoothie or yoghurt. You drink what you always drank — with fibre added.
Fibre in your daily diet
The Dutch dietary guidelines advise adults to have around 30 to 40 g of fibre a day — most people in the Netherlands do not reach that. One measuring scoop of OriginalFiber (± 5 g) provides over 4.8 g of fibre.

OriginalFiber is produced in the Netherlands in Natuurlijk.fit's own facility, led by Michael Eekhof — with lab experience since 2005. The production process is HACCP-assured and every batch is checked by an independent external laboratory.
Sustainably harvested in the Sahel
The gum is tapped by hand from living trees in the African gum belt — no tree is felled to produce this powder. Because the harvest gives the Acacia senegal economic value, acacias are actually being planted in the region. It is the same region where initiatives such as the Great Green Wall and SOS Sahel are working to green the Sahel.
