Origin

From pea to protein.

It starts with the yellow pea (Pisum sativum) — a legume naturally rich in protein.

Yellow split peas and fresh pods

The peas are milled; water is used to separate the protein from starch and fibre. What remains is pure protein.

Dried into a fine powder with more than 83% protein — no additives, no flavourings.

Everything about pea protein

What pea protein is, how much protein you need and how to use it.

What is pea protein?

Pea protein is plant-based protein from the yellow pea, Pisum sativum, which is sold as a powder. With pea protein isolate, the protein is separated from starch and fibre, leaving a powder with a high protein content. Vitarium Select Pea Protein Powder contains 83.4 g of protein per 100 g — approximately 21 g per 25 g serving — and consists of 100% pea protein isolate, with no additives.

Protein, muscles and bones

Protein carries EU-approved health claims: protein contributes to a growth in muscle mass, to the maintenance of muscle mass and to the maintenance of normal bones. Pea protein contains all nine essential amino acids, including leucine, isoleucine and valine. A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important.

How much protein do you need?

The Dutch Health Council recommends adults consume approximately 0.8 g of protein per kilogram of body weight per day; those who exercise intensively often reach 1.2 to 2.0 g per kilogram of body weight per day according to sports nutrition guidelines. One shake with 25 g of pea protein powder provides approximately 21 g of protein — a simple addition to what you get from your meals.

Pea protein or whey protein?

Whey is a milk protein; pea protein is plant-based and naturally lactose-free. Pea protein has a neutral taste with a light pea note and gives a shake a slightly fuller texture. Those who eat plant-based, avoid lactose or simply want a neutral, unsweetened base choose pea protein.

How to use pea protein powder

Mix 25 g (two heaped tablespoons) with 250 ml water, oat drink or a drink of your choice. Put the powder in the shaker first, then the liquid, and shake for twenty seconds. Also great in oatmeal, a smoothie, pancake batter or banana bread. Store the powder dry, sealed and at room temperature — not in the fridge.
